Don’t Follow at a Distance!

I came across a verse while studying the Bible the other day.

Matthew 26:58

‘But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.’

Peter was one of Jesus most faithful followers.  He had just told Jesus we would be loyal to him to the end and then he had blown it.  And he wasn’t done yet.  Peter that evening, he would deny Jesus three times to the people in the courtyard.

  • Have you ever failed someone?

  • Have you ever let them down?

  • Have you ever let Jesus down?

  • When you do, do you respond like Peter did and stay at a distance from Jesus?

When we let people down, some will forgive us.  The good news is Jesus Christ is always willing to forgive us.  Just like he did with Peter.  In John 21, Jesus appears to the disciples and when Peter realizes it’s Jesus he runs to Jesus, actually he swims.  Then in verses 15-17, Jesus restores Peter’s heart and lets him know he still has a purpose for him.

Jesus will do the same for us if we will come to him, follow him, walk with him, and live for him.  He will help us and guide us to become more like him.  So don’t follow at a distance, always run to our savior and enjoy his forgiveness and love.
