We Are God’s Children

As parents, we have a job that is often not appreciated by our children until many years later.  A role that we often wonder in the moment and through the years if we have failed or have been successful.  Last night my son and daughter-in-law brought our new grand baby over just to ‘hang out’ with us.  Debbie and I really enjoy these times.

Often, we remember times past for our own enjoyment as well as informing our daughter-in-law about her husband’s past from a different perspective than his own.  This evening the conversation moved to one of those times in my son’s life when we, as parents, were an embarrassment to him.  As we talked about it, my son apologized and thanked us for being good parents.  What a blessing to our hearts. Just as our hearts were blessed to hear from our child, they think we did a good job overall or even in one part of their lives.

God’s heart is blessed when his children say the same things to him.  This is worship.  Acknowledging God for who he is and what he has done.  1 John 3:1 - See what kind of love the Father has given to us in that we should be called God’s children, and that is what we are!  Because the world didn’t recognize him, it doesn’t recognize us.

What a blessing it is to be considered one of his children, whom He loves the same way any parent loves their child.  Bless God today and every day.  Bring your praises to him, bring your requests to him.  He loves us!  And as Isaiah 66:13 says, God will comfort us as a mother comforts her child.  What an encouraging word for all of us.
