Am I Worshiping God or Something Else?

As I continue to read/study the book, ‘Worship Matters’ by Bob Kauflin, I am challenged as a Christ follower and understanding what worship is.  How do I know what I love most?  Am I worshiping God or something else?  Bob Kauflin has seven questions that help me recognize what I worship.

  1. What do I spend the most time doing?
(Work, TV, social media, hobbies, Bible study, etc.)

  2. Where does my mind drift to when I don’t have anything to do?
(God and His Word, the worries of the world, family, work, play, etc.)

  3. What am I passionate about?
(Sports team, cars, food, family, things, people, God, etc.)

  4. What do I spend my money on?
(Our bank account reveals what is most important to us.)

  5. What makes me angry, when I don’t get it?
(My way, social justice, sports team win, my favorite ____________, Christian persecution, etc. )

  6. What do I feel depressed without?
(My home, car, TV, spouse, children, money, job, faith, etc.)

  7. What do I fear losing the most?
(Spouse, children, family, friends, job, money, home, reputation, faith, etc.)

Our answers to these questions will lead us straight to the One True God or the gods we love and worship.  I hope these questions will help you grown in your worship of God and as the hymn, ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus’, says ‘and the things of earth grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.’

I’m so glad that the light of Christ really is brighter than anything this world has to offer and over and over it brings me awe at who God is, how much God loves me and has done in my life.  May you be reminded of that today and every day.
