Worship Matters

As I continue to read/study, ‘Worship Matters’ by Bob Kauflin, I am challenged in my view and practice of worship.  The apostle Paul wrote a letter to Timothy, a younger man he had disciples, to instruct and encourage him in faith and service.  Paul wrote words that are God’s counsel for each of us today.

  • ‘Let no one despise you for your youth, but set an example for the believers in

  • speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.’
    1 Timothy 4:12

Regardless of age, we must realize and remember because people are watching us and learning from us, we must live that example in all areas of our lives.

In Speech
Every time we open our mouths, we are counseling others, communicating what’s important and what’s not and letting others know whose words matter more - ours or God’s.  Speak His Word.

In Conduct
The way we act leads people to God’s love in Christ or points them away from him.   The sinful struggles we have in life mean we need people well to help us live a life worthy of the gospel.  Walk with Him.

In Love
We can’t claim to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength if we don’t love our neighbor.  He can help us through his Holy Spirit.  Listen to Him.

In Faith
Hebrews 11:6 makes this pretty clear: ‘And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe he exists, and he rewards those who earnestly seek him.  Trust Him.

In Purity
Purity is the quality of being undefined, unmixed, undiluted, free from evil or contamination.  This applies to our motives and actions.  Be in His Word daily.

You may feel you do all of these well, others may struggle with one or two, and some of us can always improve in every one of these areas.  As we set a Godly example in each of these areas our lives become more and more lives of worship:  a beautiful reflection of Jesus Christ.  And when Christ is lifted up, people are drawn to him.  Set the example well my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Grace and Peace,

Brian Frank
